GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The course covers basic phenomena associated with a fuel failure in water cooled nuclear reactors (BWR and PWR), describes various types fuel failure mechanisms established in the nuclear industry, discusses the means of identification and characterization of fuel failures while reactor is in operation and after shutdown as well as typical actions taken in response to fuel failures.
FRAMATOME FUEL INTEGRITY FUNDAMENTALS
The course covers basic phenomena associated with a fuel failure in water cooled nuclear reactors (BWR and PWR), describes various types fuel failure mechanisms established in the nuclear industry, means of identification and characterization of fuel failures while reactor is in operation and after shutdown as well as typical vendor actions in response to fuel failures.
The course follows the FIT training style of maximizing student engagement through the use of visually impactful training presentations, 20 interactive exercises and a final evaluation test with 40 multiple choice questions. The exercises reinforce key concepts and maintain student attention more effectively than traditional lecture-focused training. The training is packaged within an electronic OneNote companion notebook, which contains all training materials facilitating the interactive training experience.
The course provides discussion of nuclear fuel integrity concept, types of fuel defects, established mechanisms by which fuel fails in water cooled nuclear reactors (BWR/PWR), typical actions taken Framatome in response of fuel failure as well means of characterization and management of fuel failure. Each module includes the basic definitions, description of processes and analyses, including example exercises.
MODULES
Module 1: Introduction to Fuel Failures
