Applied Nuclear Core Design for PWR Reactors

Course number: TRF-CD0001-G

Objectives:

Give an applied training on the nuclear core design and in-core fuel management process, including loading pattern development and optimization. The trainee will profit from the world-wide applied experience of Framatome engineers on different type of PWR reactors and safety regulations. The training is based on the code system CASCADE-3D. It can also be alternatively offered with ARCADIA.

Content:

The training consists of the following topics (and can be adapted on customer needs):

  • Introduction in the methods and codes used in the CASCADE-3D code system

  • Calculation of nuclear cross sections and form functions

  • Optimization of nuclear cores using the loading pattern optimization tool RELOGS

  • Execution of neutronic and thermo-hydraulic calculations needed for the Incore Fuel Management (including the application of the codes PRISM, PINPOW, BEA and PANBOX for MSLB calculations)

  • Generation of data for the process control computer and/or Core Monitoring System

The contents, the format (see hereafter), and the duration are adapted according to the customer request and needs.

The course materials are based on the most up-to-date world-wide Framatome know-how to provide to our attendees the highest quality on the technical content of our courses.

The teaching material includes interactive PowerPoint presentations and hands-on exercises. The training can also comprise exercises on simulator, on equipment mock-ups, and also guided visits of test facilities.

The instructors comes from the Framatome GmbH Fuel Engineering site. Their knowledge is based on years of experience in engineering service activities, as well as on the specific competences necessary for the training.
